The Economic Situation of Polish Cities in Post-Mining Regions. Long-Term Analysis on the Example of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin

The purpose of this article is to identify the long-term economic consequences mine decommissioning for five selected cities located in Poland Upper Silesian Coal Basin. It carried out over a period 18 years and covers 2003–2020. effects are examined context budgets where mining plants were closed. In course analyses, authors attempt answer following research questions: (1) has mines influenced current strategic situation terms their budgets? (2) Have felt similar way? assessment was from two perspectives: operational, relating balance local budgets, strategic, taking into account level liabilities cities. As part methodology, budget analysis, descriptive statistics, dynamics trends correlation comparative analysis used. shows that hard coal Basin had negative impact on debt.
